Happy Mother’s Day!
In honor of all that mothers do everyday, here’s an easy way to say thanks. Making a gratitude garland gives us a way to think about what we really appreciate and to show it off in style. To make this garland, just print out the free download below and follow the easy instructions.
To make the project easier, don’t forget that clean up is the first step to set up. First, find a clear, clean surface and assemble your tools. For this activity, you will need a printer, scissors, tape, and some kind of thread or string. I used sewing thread, but fishing line, twine, or yarn would all work fine. If you can’t print out the download, don’t worry! You can use construction paper or regular paper to draw the hearts and color them in if you want.
If you’re using the printed sheet, remember to make the job easier by making your BIG cuts first and using symmetry to help. Once you cut the hearts out into big rows, cut between them to separate. When the hearts are separated, you can fold each one in half and then cut just the folded half. The shape of the heart is a little tricky here, so fold by pinching the pointy tip and the V-shaped dip first and then creasing the fold between them when they’re aligned.
After the hearts are cut out, think about what you really appreciate and write one thing you’re thankful for on each heart. Next, tape the hearts to the string. If you want to space them evenly, you can use your fingers as a guide. I spaced my hearts about two fingers apart. I did it by myself, but helps to have someone hold the string while you do the taping. Don’t be afraid to make it a team effort. It’s good to work together!
If you make the garland, send me pics! I’d love to see where you hang it. You can email me at hello@zeitkite.com, post the pics on Instagram and tag #thegrabbits, or post them right on the Grabbits Facebook page at facebook.com/thegrabbits.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the loving, hardworking moms out there! You really make the world go ‘round!
